The Encore Automatic Banjo was
first introduced in 1897. The original production of the Encore
ceased by 1906. After 100 years, this extraordinary instrument lives
on, being made on an individual basis by the D.C. Ramey Piano
Company since 1978. Dave Ramey and son, David, Jr., have built
over 40 of these instruments.

Features. The
Encore features a custom crafted four-string banjo beautifully
inlaid with abalone and mother-of-pearl. The banjo is capable of
producing a scale of 25 notes (C to C), two octaves. The mechanisms
are all pneumatically operated from a five-tune endless loop music
roll, featuring popular music from the late 1890's through early
1900's.
Cabinet. The cabinet is of solid quarter-sawn oak with
glass in the front and on the sides, featuring cast-brass decorative
corner grills. The dimensions of the Encore are approximately 26
inches wide by 26 inches deep by 80 inches tall, and weighs
approximately 280 pounds. The instrument is activated from a single
drop nickel coin slide, unless otherwise special ordered. An
electric lamp illuminates the interior when playing.
Terms. The
purchase price of a Ramey Encore Automatic Banjo is $27,000.00.
Included with the instrument are five recut five-tune music rolls,
and delivery within 200 miles of the factory. A
required buyer's fee of $5,000.00 is due upon order with
the balance of $22,000.00 due upon completion. Please inquire
for a current projected completion date.
