The
Seeburg KT, arguably America’s most popular little orchestrion, was
introduced in 1914. Based on the successful model K, Seeburg added a
tambourine, triangle, and castanets to the “midget orchestrion” and
tubed the roll mechanism to play style “G” music rolls. Seeburg touted its new model
as “the smallest orchestra in the world and the largest money
maker.” It was smaller, cheaper than its larger counterparts and
could be used in the smallest establishments opening a new market
for Seeburg orchestrions.
This
instrument was originally a xylophone-equipped late style K that
Dave Ramey converted to a KT, as was popular to do. Dave had bought
the instrument from an East Coast collector and proudly had the
instrument as part of his private collection for nearly twenty
years. The instrument is in very good restored condition. The
cabinet is in original condition, a beautiful patina silver gray
finish featuring the classic “Eagle” art glass and nickel coin drop.
The piano has been restrung and mechanical components have been
restored. Altogether, it is a very nice example. Includes six
re-cut Style G music rolls (more are
available).
