This impressive instrument was once owned by collector Melvin
Walker. It
was later sold to Jasper Sanfilippo, who traded it towards the
purchase of a new Ramey Banjo-Orchestra. David Ramey, Sr. had done
some work on the pneumatic components and added a set of orchestra
bells (new action, original bells).
The
cabinet is quartered oak with inlaid marquetry designs, topped with
a gallery featuring the Wurlitzer “Wonder Lamp.” Dave upgraded the
art glass with a beautiful unique set of Wurlitzer glass
that had been separated from its original instrument and added
a pair of lamps to the top. The
orchestrion was proudly featured in Dave’s private collection.
The
instrument is in very good working condition. Instrumentation
includes a piano with mandolin attachment, two ranks of pipes (38
each, flute and violin), snare drum, bass drum, triangle, and added
14-note orchestra bell unit. Equipped with six-roll automatic
changer. Plays five-tune Automatic Player Piano (APP) music
rolls. Twelve
re-cut five-tune APP rolls are included.
